Pearlescent pigment mica powder next to an automotive coating panel at Manali Pigments

100% In-House Manufactured

Pearlescent Pigment & Mica Powder Manufacturer

Manali Pigments manufactures premium pearlescent pigments and mica pigment powder entirely in-house, delivering controlled luster, colour depth and batch-to-batch consistency. Control over substrate coating and particle-size classification supports the optical standards required by automotive, cosmetics, plastics and industrial-coatings formulators.

What Are Pearlescent Pigments?

Pearlescent pigments are optical-effect pigments consisting of natural or synthetic mica platelets coated with controlled layers of metal oxides, primarily Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) or Iron Oxide (Fe2O3). Unlike absorption pigments, they create their distinctive appearance through light interference, refraction and reflection.

When white light strikes a titanium-dioxide-coated mica platelet, some light reflects from the outer TiO2 layer while some refracts through the coating and reflects from the mica substrate. The waves recombine at different phases, producing constructive interference at specific wavelengths. The precise oxide-layer thickness determines whether the effect appears gold, red, blue or green, ranging from a soft satin luster to brilliant metallic sparkle without actual metal content.

The Manali Manufacturing Advantage

Manali Pigments manufactures 100% of its pearlescent pigments and mica pigment powder in-house, from mica-substrate preparation through metal-oxide precipitation, calcination and final particle-size classification. This Precision Optics, 100% In-House Controlled approach places the critical optical parameters under one manufacturing system.

Control over TiO2 and Fe2O3 precipitation, pH, temperature and concentration supports coating thickness and interference colour. High-temperature calcination converts deposited hydroxides into crystalline oxides, while particle classification keeps visual effects consistent. The ISO 9001:2015 quality-management system governs production, and STAR EXPORT HOUSE recognition supports international supply.

Understanding Particle Size & Visual Effects

The visual effect of a pearlescent pigment is directly influenced by the particle size of the coated mica platelets. Selecting the correct micron range helps formulators balance coverage, luster, transparency and sparkle for the intended application.

Pearlescent Pigment Particle Size Visual Effect Satin Pearl Sparkle Manali Pigments

< 15 µm — Satin

Smooth, satin-like luster with excellent hiding power and a subtle sheen.

10–60 µm — Pearl

Classic pearl luster balancing brilliance and coverage with visual depth.

> 60 µm — Sparkle

Brilliant sparkle and glitter effects with high transparency and dramatic impact.

Featured Pearlescent Effect Series

Manali Pigments offers 42 distinct pearlescent grades organized into three core product families. Each family is engineered for a different combination of substrate, coating thickness, particle size and optical performance.

Silver/White Pearls

TiO2-coated mica produces a clean silver-white luster for formulators seeking elegant, understated luminosity across coating, plastic and ink systems.

Interference Colors

Precisely controlled TiO2-layer thickness produces gold, red, blue, green and violet reflection colours with the dynamic colour-travel effect used in automotive and cosmetics applications.

Metallic & Earth Tones

Fe2O3-coated mica produces bronze, copper, russet and antique-gold tones for luxury packaging, architectural coatings and high-end plastics applications.

Industry Applications: Automotive, Plastics & Beyond

Pearlescent pigments and metallic pigments serve industries where premium visual impact supports product differentiation. In automotive OEM and refinish coatings, interference pigments provide dynamic colour travel and deep metallic luster. In cosmetics and personal-care packaging, mica pigment powder creates luminous, light-catching surfaces that communicate luxury.

In plastics masterbatch, pearlescent pigments support optical brilliance during extrusion and injection moulding for electronics housings, automotive trim and premium packaging. For related application guidance, see pigments for plastics and masterbatch.

For packaging, labels and security printing, pearlescent pigments deliver metallic effects in inks. In epoxy flooring and casting, a metallic pigment for epoxy disperses through resin systems to create dynamic three-dimensional decorative effects. For coating-system selection, review pigments for paints and coatings.

Global Demand & Effect Pigment Market Trends

Demand for pearlescent pigment and synthetic mica pigment is supported by the shift toward premium aesthetics in automotive coatings and consumer packaging. Metallic pigment for epoxy is also opening demand in decorative flooring and casting systems. Manali Pigments exports mica pigment powder to more than 15 countries, including the USA, Brazil, Russia and South Africa.
